Default From 13th to 14th Generation...

Hello folks. I haven't been on the forum in quite some time. It's good to be back.
I've leased three of the 13th gen F150's and ended up buying the last one, which is a 2020 XLT in black. I bought it be cause they had no trucks for me to get into a new lease at the time and the price seemed OK considering the current market. I paid $35,600 OTD for it with 24000 miles on it. That was back in June. The fact is I hate the black color. It looks awesome when it's washed but only stays that was for like 3 minutes, lol.
I leased the black cause it was the deal at the time.
I'm now looking at 14th gen trucks. I only look at Certified Used which, in my opinion, adds a lot with the extended warranty. The 12 and 12 is added to the bumper to bumper and drive train goes from 5 year and 60 to 7 year and 100. With the 10 speed trans issues, I think it's a good idea.
That brings me to the trans. Not looking to have a drag out conversation about it. I think we all know there's issues with it. But, how bad is it really? Are there many 10 speed owners that don't have any problems with it? My 2020 wasn't perfect but for the most part it shifted fine...
How about other thoughts on the 14th gen. Anyone have any significant gripes?
I'm looking at a 2021 right now. It seems to have the 302A and the Sport Appearance packages. It also has the factory sunroof, the 20" wheels, the upgraded B&O Sound System (not the Unleashed System) and leather seats. It has the same 2.7 I've been driving around in with my last three trucks so I'm used to that and it does everything I need it to do. It's got just over 13,000 miles on it. They're asking $47,900 for it which would put me around $51 and change with tax and all...

What are your thoughts on 13th gen vs 14th gen (is it worth the money), the 10 speed transmissions and, I guess on this 2021 I'm looking at specifically?
Thanks for your thoughts in advance,,,

I've owned a 15 Lariat 3.5 and an 18 STX with the 2.7. I personally believe the upgrade is worth it, so long as you purchase a 302A or higher. This is due to the added tech inside. This is not to say anything about 301A and lower, other than this: the tech is too similar for me to justify an upgrade to one of the newer trucks that are 301A and below. Mechanically, aside from the PB, the powertrains are similar enough that I do not personally believe it is worth is to buy a 21+, coming from your current truck.

Aesthetically, the 21+ is probably the best looking truck Ford has ever produced.

I absolutely believe it is worth the money, for the aesthetics and the tech. I do not recall having any trans issues with the 15 or the 18 but I owned a 22 XLT and a 22 Lariat with the same powertrain, and both have the trans shudder in gears 6-10. I drive almost exclusively in eco mode, and this significantly decreases the severity of the shudder.

Just keep in mind, used prices are coming down, so don't be afraid to haggle, or even walk knowing there is likely a better deal to be had.

I owned a 2016 XLT w/ 302A and now the 2022 Lariat 502A with $18k of options.

The 2016 XLT had horrible headlights, be sure to upgrade that if the 2021 doesn't have LED, well worth it.

The collision prevention system.. I am not sure if it's worth it, I did not have that in my 2016 and I've never hit anything.

I can imagine the interior materials are a bit nicer in the 2021 compared to the 2016, and both are equally spacious and both have capable 4x4 systems.

I'd probably still upgrade because the resale value is always better on the newer models with more tech.

So, I went and looked at the truck. It's pretty nice. In addition to the 302A and the Sport Appearance packages, it also has the factory sunroof, the 20" wheels, the upgraded B&O Sound System, Ford Co-Pilot 360 Assist 2.0 and the upgraded trailer tow package. Not to mention a Ford bed liner and tonneau cover. The leather seats are aftermarket made by Roadwire, and they look and feel great. In addition to the fact this truck has the Gold Certified, it's local to me, which is a pretty big plus.

It's not far off from a Lariat for a fraction of the price.

There is a tiny chip in the windshield and some weird scratches in the dash just above the instrument cluster. Other than that I can't see anything other imperfections.

I drove it and it rode and shifted fine. 13,321 miles. The truck was built on June 3rd 2021.

Believe me, I'm not trying to talk myself into it here, but I believe it's not a horrible deal...

Man am I sorry I didn't jump on that truck. I've been looking and looking and there just isn't anything popping up close to that deal. I didn't know it at the time 'cause I had just started looking - now I know...lol

There is a pretty nice looking '21 Lariat that is pretty loaded. It's gold certified with under 13000 miles on it. Problem is they're asking $55.7 and it's in eastern PA (I'm in MI). I emailed them telling them to get it down to 50K and they'd also have to give me 33K on my trade-in (2020 XLT with 32000 miles). I know it's a fantasy but all they can say is no thanks, right?...lol

Don't be so sure about that, the way I bought my new 2016 XLT 4x4 was done via e-mail. I e-mailed the one in San Diego, told them I have a great 2012 XLT 4x4 with no blemishes (I babied the **** out of it) and told them I wanted $24k, and if other dealers are offering $10k off new XLT's then I don't see why they should not do the same..

Got my $53k XLT SuperCrew 4x4 for $43k and they accepted my trade-in for $24k. Smooth transaction, I made it clear it will be a done deal, once agreed, I would come down immediately.

No hassles, but things might have changed due to the shortage.

I didn’t like the 13th gen I test drove, but have a 21 and today is a year and 15k since I drove it home.

Todays xlt/302 is spec’d like a prior gen Lariat without the leather. That’s already taken care of.
seeing as todays XLT302 can often be seen priced in the mid 60k, yet lose xm/Nav etc price is probably good.
