Default 10R80 Servicing

I am looking to have my Transmission serviced soon on my 2022. I asked a service advisor today about having it serviced. He told me that they do not replace the filter and just preform a fluid change. It looks like the filter change is more involved with possibly jacking up the back of the trans in inch or so to remove the pan. Is this typical for a trans service to just change the fluid or should I look for a shop that will also change the filter?

That’s your call. Most shops elect to change the filter/strainer with the drain and fill.

It sounds as if what they plan on doing is evacuating the fluid from a pan with a fluid pump. Then refilling the pan.

personally, I would find a shop that cares to actually service your truck as it’s called out in the factory Ford service manual, not some backyard redneck bull****

The Ford trans service has a machine that hooks into a supply or return line and does a complete fluid exchange while running the truck. Definitely not a backyard redneck bull**** service.

I don't know what kind of filter the 10R80 has but the fluid exchange is a very good thing to do on any vehicle.

You should drop the pan and change the filter too, there will be metal dust on the filter(the filter has magnets for that). Can’t believe ford dealer doesn’t even offer the proper trans service. The pan on the 10r80 on our trucks are much easier to drop compared to earlier 10r80s.

I watched this video previously, that is where I viewed about raising the back of the transmission. Don't know if it would pertain to my '21, 3.5 eco or my '22, 2.7 eco. I do have the service manual on DVD for the '21. I'll have to look into it. I was hoping just to take it to a dealer, have them do it, and be done with it.

If they aren’t changing the filter/strainer, it’s some half assed redneck ****. Shop doesn’t want to do it right, that’s some redneck BS

How often does it call out for the transmission to be serviced?

Ya it is, whats the point of changing fluid and leaving the dirty filter in place? When you change your engine oil do you leave the old filter on it, just dump in new oil?
