Stacks on a gas truck is the most white trash thing in the world. I'll never forget seeing some dirty slob in a S-10 with not just a stack out the bed, but a tall one..... really tall like 6'.
No, it was a legit question. And yes, I am more aware than ever of the squadron of toothless rednecks bragging about the intolerable noise that their 1992 Nissan with a rusty trashcan bolted to the bed makes. The appearance was my chief objection, and my solution would've been salt bath nitrided stainless emerging from the toolbox just behind the rear passenger pillar (and this is on a black truck). I agree that it would be very hard/impossible to pull off in a way that didn't scream "I'm married to my cousin and run an integrated methamphetamine production and distribution business from my double-wide".
I would love to see a pic of the above exhaust as well. My other concern with turndowns is heating up the spare over time so that IT fails exactly when you need it.
Sorry it took me so long to upload these for you! The first pictures are from the "test run" I did on my factory exhaust. Once I was sure that I liked the dumped exhaust I ended up cutting my Corsa (db performance) exhaust. I put the Corsa exhaust tip on it just because I thought it looked good.
My only concern would be heating up the spare, but I guess if I were that afraid, I'd just keep the tire in the bed.
I am also trying to figure out what the exhaust component between the resonator and the muffler is. I am not sure if it's hybrid specific, as it is located near the inverter and battery. My best guess after staring at it for a while is that it is a heating element using tapped exhaust gas, possibly to warm the coolant loop for the battery in cold weather (LiIon batteries lose a ton of charge if cold). I would love to get an answer on this, as my alternate exhaust scheme would be full dual straight back to a Flowmaster 50 Series Big Block dual 3" in/3.5" out at the stock muffler location with an exhaust exit at the stock location as well. If I did that, I would want to know if pushing only half of the exhaust gas past whatever this thing is would cause trouble (i.e. one of the 3" pipes flows through it, one bypasses it, trying to eliminate flow differences with an X-pipe before and after).

Thanks for all of the thoughtful replies.
There's normally a heat shield between the exhaust and the spare tire but I removed that as well since it hung down pretty far beyond the spare tire. For what it's worth, I've got thousands of miles on this setup and no visible wear/damage to the spare tire.

Thank you.
That looks decent and if I can't find a local shop to figure out a way to tuck my tailpipe I will go this route.
