Default Performance Gain

I have a 2011 F150 with the 5.0 engine. Can the power be increased and at the same time get better gas mileage?

I appreciate any help or advice.

Yes, some tunes and increased compression ratio will do that. Pretty much every other performance mod will either not affect or hurt mileage.

Thanks Mike has anyone done specific mods with results? I was considering the Boss 302.

Fuel mileage? It’s pretty tough to get a fair comparison. The boss intake wouldn’t help fuel economy anyway. I’ve found that driving style, pure gas, and maybe a bed cover are the best ways to improve fuel economy.

I drive very conservative with mixed driving I'm only getting average 17.0 per gallon 87 octane. It's a flex fuel vehicle and I was hoping to improve it.

Switching to pure gas will get you 1 mpg.

As for driving it’s not so much about driving “conservatively”. Stop/go and idle-time will kill your mileage. Being easy on the gas won’t help it any. Minimize idle time and braking. Maximize coasting and drafting. These changes can make huge improvements in economy.

The only reason IMO to swap to the Boss mani would be for A) under he hood looks or B) Top end results at the track. If neither of those are what you are looking for, I wouldn't bother. Your normal day to day driving will suffer as you will definitely lose, low-mid range power.

Good post! Most people don't know this.
