Default Ordered some CalTracs

I've been thinking all this time the reason for my violent launches were because of my 35" tires. Kudos to Unbroken for suggesting a set traction bars. I shot this video today and you can see the wheel hop and axle wrap.

I decided to go with CalTracs for a couple reason. They were a $250 cheaper and after calling Stifflers and getting the same story about not supporting installation on 2015 up trucks. They probably would have work but when I talked to a tech he very adamant about not installing on a newer truck.

I'll follow up with another video with the CalTracs installed.

When I first watched it I thought "thats not so bad", but wow, you really see it in the slo-mo. So are axle mounts weld on or clamp? And for the front mounts do they just mount to existing holes in the frame or require a little drilling?

The truck bouncing multiple times would cause you to unload weight from the rear, so even if you're not hopping you'd still probably end up spinning.

I put a set of VAS traction bars on mine, it's night and day for sure, even on the stock 265/60/18 dynapro's it launches WAY better. I can actually launch relatively aggressively from a stop. Still can't mat it from a stop but i'll have some tires for that soon lol.

Nice! I'm interested how you like them. I'm highly considering some also.

My issue with CalTracs in the past was getting them dialed in. When they were good on the track they were stiff as hell on the street and when they were soft on the street they didn’t work at the track. I went to long bars on that truck and I’ll never use a bar of that style again.
And for the life of me I can’t figure out why Stifflers won’t just amend their instructions and tell people their bars do in fact work on 15^ trucks. There’s at least 10-15 of us I’ve seen personally running them. What would be so hard about telling people you have to drill one extra hole from the other kits?

I had emailed stifflers to ask if/when they would have bars for the later trucks. I was told work in progress, maybe 4-6 weeks. hopefully not a story.

The other thing that made me a little unsure about the Stifflers were the the length and I would be mounting on an RCSB.

I wasn't sure how far forward the front mounts would be because of the short wheel base.

Ran into a temporary snag today when I tried to install the CalTracs. Looks like I'm going have to drop the fuel tank to get the front leaf spring bolt out. No big deal, except I had just filled up the tank. Did feel like fighting that so I run the fuel out and do it next weekend.

BTW this wouldn't have been an issue with the Stifflers because the way they attach to the frame, oh well live and learn.

Now a question for Unbroken if he's watching this thread. Since I'm lowering the tank would it be a good time to install a DW400 fuel pump like he has?

No better time to install the big pump. I’ll have my check valve set up I had Fore make this week...you’ll need a check valve of some sort to stop drainback since the DW400 doesn’t have one built in.
I can save you the tank drop though. Just loosen the nut on the front bolt until there’s about 1/2” of thread showing, push it towards the tank that 1/2” and use a cut off wheel to remove the bolt head then pull the rest out of the spring. Replace it with the same size Grade 8 bolt and a Nylok nut facing the opposite way and you’re done for about 5 bucks. That’s how the drop kits have you do it, they even supply the new bolt.

Thanks,
Someone else suggested cutting the bolt off in my build thread too. Sounds like the easy way to go. I'll go ahead and order a DW400 also.
