ML vs LT headers
i have a Roush Phase 2 and I’m waiting on my Omega Tune. I’m on the fence right now with the AFE mid length headers and y pipe or Kooks full length.
For the header guys what are you running and what have your thoughts been on it. I know the mids are better then factory manifolds and on every forum for every car it’s debated mid vs long. Or how about the mids with factory y pipe. Is the AFE really worth it. Or do long tube with true duals. Any thoughts from experience would be great.

According to Dustin Whipple, long tube headers are only worth about 10-15 rwhp on supercharged mustangs. Probably less on a stock engine. I have seen with my own eyes dyno testing of short vs long tube headers. To everyone's surprise, the long tubes offered a considerable mid-range improvement but the top end and hp number was virtually the same. I will also add that shorty headers can only improve things if the stock manifolds are deficient. The stock 5.0 manifolds look fairly elaborately cast to me, which makes me think they're pretty good.
I had a set of factory exhaust manifolds from a 2016 and I would say all n all they aren’t a bad looking set for factory flow. I’m sure with a supercharged engine mid or long will improve, but how much exactly? I can’t really find anything with a before and after. All the after numbers also include a custom tune. I hate to jump on the mid length and see 10hp gains. So maybe I’ll just stick it out with the stick manifolds for now.
Stage3 is running a Black Friday 20% off deal starting tomorrow on StainlessWorks exhaust. I am thinking about ordering their long tube performance connect headers and performance connect cat back exhaust while I wait for the new 3L Whipple to be released for the 2018s. Went to the dyno today and pulled 338 HP and 350 torque as the baseline before I start adding performance parts.

Good read. I think I’m just gonna hold off until a supercharged guy tosses a set on and comes on talking up huge numbers. I know VMP put the long tubes on their truck, but the don’t say the gain from the headers. It was tuning , headers and I think their TVS swap. So for now, I’ll sit back and watch.
IMO anything to let exhaust out faster is worth the money when boosted. IF the midrange gains are big that could be worth it alone. Power isn't just all about top end. Especially in a truck.
A few years back I was able to put 2 sets of headers on my 2012 HD 6.2l. The first set was Borla off road headers that were 1"3/4 primaries, then I switched over to Stainless World 1"7/8 primaries. I loved them both! I found that the Borla set, witht the smaller primaries, had much better low end torque. But the sound that came out of the Stainless works was fantastic. Lost a lot of low end torque and it droned quite a bit, so it came at a price!!
Now I have a SC 6.2l limited and will be looking to put headers on again!
BTW, I still have the Borla set up if anyone is looking for a screaming deal!!
