What is the bottom end differences between the 11-14 mustang gt coyote and the 11-14 truck coyote?

We have more than a few s197 mustangs turning 7500-8k. Some for a LOOOONG time.

They share the same powdered rods and the stock forged crank, different pistons.

8k under boost? Limiting factor on the early coyotes was the powdered rods, as they become a liability somewhere north of 550whp. I would not spin a stock 11-14 coyote to 8k under boost; NA would not be a problem, but boost is a different animal.

There is always the exception, and I’m sure plenty of people have pushed their luck, but there have been plenty of rod failures at high power on the early coyotes.

nah 8k for all motor, they don't need to spin to 8k for boost. 72-7500 though definitely.

I know but it won't shift out of 4th, that's what i meant with "doesn't matter because you aren't going that fast" That fast being over 130 mph.

it's just shifting into 4th

Are you really only turning 67-6800 rpms on that thing? That's crazy low for a coyote to me. Not at least like 7k?

it was shifting at 7k, new shifting pattern is set for 7200. Getting the right rpm at the end of the 1/4 mile is somewhat of an ordeal, with tires being a major limiting factor that will work on my truck...go over the brakes and with six lugs and all. Well even with the 410s and 30" tall tires if it traps 120mph, its only 6282 rpm. It's not ideal (shifting into 4th before the finish) but it's good enough. Getting it to near redline in 4th would have required an even taller gear than the 410's. That would have made it impossible for the tranny to shift in time going from first to second

Definitely need to shift higher

set to shift now at 7200

man it's got plenty of rpm in first, second and third gears. It's only a drop off going into 4th right before the finish line.

I know some believe I should have opted for a converter instead of gears, but there was a lot of factors that influenced the decision for gears, headers, dyno tune and pulley swap, and all the labor including adapting the x pipe to the kooks headers and flanges and everything. All told, I believe I'm further ahead with what I've spent compared to what a converter would have cost me along with the installation. 10 years ago I perhaps would have attempted all the labor myself, however at 61 years old it just isn't as much fun rolling around on the garage floor.

New drag tires will here Saturday, and the Eaton Truetrac will be here next week. After that, I don't foresee any major performance mods, at least not in the near future. I've been looking around though at parts....Boss rods and mustang cams and stuff are actually pretty cheap from Tasca parts.

For the record, I didn’t think you needed gears or a converter to get into the 11’s, you just needed more power. I vote you get the truck on the track before spending anymore money, to get a better idea of where you are at.

It's ok, i'm not taking names and i'm not offended. I was just sort of explaining myself.

Anyway, it has more power and gears, shifts better and the throttle isn't closing down on shifts now like it was. Hopefully it blows past 11.99 by quite a bit, but I'm not stupid enough to make predictions. I hope and want honestly 11.50's.

With a decent DA I can't imagine you won't be at that mark. Where do you run it?

Alamo City Motorplex

I actually almost had the truck sold about 3 months ago. We were within $500 of clinching the deal. I gave ground but the buyer wouldn't. So I re-evaluated everything. I knew if I sold the truck I would buy something else to tinker with, so I figured it would actually be cheaper to just fix the truck the way I want it than to buy something new and start over. I've spent quite a bit of money on drag wheels and tires, street tires, and all the other mods listed earlier. I was shocked when I added it all up, however this is probably my last hot rod, so I'm doing pretty much what I want with it.

Last year I paid off my wife's 2017 Explorer limited ecoboost…...knowing at some point I would want to spend money and didn't want to feel guilty about it (she was making the payments)Great thing too is that we have separate checking accounts. I don't care what she spends, and she says she doesn't care what I spend lol
