I got ya. One could always tune with a not so hot tune and then use the drive modes as a "on the fly" switch...

Yes, I was referring to a Tuner similar to a Diesel Tuner. Basically was wondering if I am going to be switching between eco, tow, and performance tunes all on the same tank, if I have to go through the whole process of plugging in, going through the whole setup and loading process, or If purchasing a tuner with a screen monitor, I could just select the tune I want on the monitor, and when done towing or whatever, set it back to eco.

It doesnt sound like this is an option... which isnt a huge deal, but without the option, seems a little less practical for my needs. I dont wanna have to go through the whole loading process twice when i wanna pull my trailers 25 miles....

Thanks anyway guys!

You can get a performance/tow tune in your octane of choice.

Even with the half and half style tune you will gain from better shift strategies and overall smoothness. My truck simply drives better on the aftermarket tune. Hard to explain, but it's more refined and just runs better.

I have the 5Star Tuning 93 Perf/Tow tune loaded for that exact reason. Their Perf/Tow tune is the best for daily driving and towing. The drive modes still work as well. So, I can drive around with 93 Perf/Tow loaded and toggle between Normal/Tow-Haul/Sport/Wet/Eco and the truck will drive different. I have it in normal as it suits me the best but if I were to tow anything (which is rare for me) then I can toggle over to Tow-Haul on the fly and be good to go.

I agree 100%. My truck drives so good with a tune. When I go back to stock for service is feels like a dog. 100% happy tuned.

I was just on their site the 5 star site after reading through this and they posted new dyno graphs, can't believe how much they are getting out of the gen 2!

So basically, I can load whichever Octane tune I will use often, and leave the truck in standard mode (i have a 2015 with the 3 modes, standard, tow, and Sport), and in standard even tho it is a performance/tow tune, my mileage will not decrease or maybe improve? And putting it into tow haul, or in sport is where I will notice much more aggressive gains? Im new to all this, and this info isnt really available on youtube, or websites. Most youtube vids are showing 93oct performance tunes on a track. my truck wont be on a track... its my daily driver, and hunting truck. But getting better performance and possibly mileage while pulling a trailer, is pretty important, as I spend a pretty decent amount of my fall and spring towing my enclosed trailers for hunting.

Thanks for the info! Makes me feel a little better about everything!

You would probably be best with a 91 or 93 performance/tow tune (not really supposed to tow with performance tunes) for the octane you want then yes, you still have all your modes that do the same things with more power and better shifting.

Pretty much sums it up. I also get the same mileage I got with a bone stock truck that I get now with the tune, lift, and bigger AT tires (so as long as you are not hammering down on the skinny pedal too much you should see improved mileage). My driving is pretty much all suburban and city and I get around 18-18.5 city. The truck will feel different when you toggle through the drive modes even with the tune. It's a pretty noticeable difference between a tuned and stock truck.

Thanks for the info! Im pretty stock right now, with only a leveling kit added for exterior mods, but I do have a topper. I plan on going to either a 33.5 to a 34.5" tire on new rims, but with a +12 to a +25 offset so I will hopefully not have to do any trimming. If I can get a tune, and notice better performance in standard drive mode, and a pretty good difference when I hit tow haul or performance, especially with bigger tires, it will be exactly what im looking for! I just didnt want to have to program the truck every other day...

You will notice a difference mainly in how the truck holds gears to stay in boost if you have an Ecoboost engine. With the mods you described the tuner will definitely keep you truck feeling peppier than stock and you'll be able to adjust your tire size so the transmission shifts will be better and your speedo will be correct. Those bigger and heavier tires are gonna suck up a good bit of performance so tuning will allow you to get some of it back.
