When you get it dialed in you are going to love it. It will feel so much more powerful and the shifts are perfect in Normal and Sport mode.

I'd be interested to hear your thoughts once you get a few miles on it.
I just sent Ken my read file today.

He already sent me the initial tune file. I have to go to Chicago until Wednesday night... was thinking of loading it up before the trip, but I don't want to risk trying the write with my Mac. Gonna wait to find a Windows box before I attempt the write.

Got a brand new MPVI2 yesterday and I had exactly the same error message last night on a windows 10 machine. Had the read fail multiple times at various spots. I even tried both the beta and normal HPTuners software. Read somewhere it could be a voltage issue, so I turned off after market radio and amps, put a trickle charger on and finally got it to read. Makes me nervous for when I have to write something.

This is just getting everything ready for the Whipple and after market tune. I wanted to have the stock file as a backup. Whipple’s been on order for a week and talked a little bit with Oz Boys about how to approach the work.

Missed this thread entirely up until now. Curious about the ambient temperature when you tried to read the tune? I believe that battery efficiency drops with temperature and could cause the voltage to drop below what's needed.

I know Rayo has a heated garage so that probably wasn't his problem.

The temps were in the 70’s, in South Florida it doesn’t get too much less than that. I did some more work with the MPVi2 and after some testing I finally got it to read consistently. I have an aftermarket stereo system in the truck that had a high draw rate on the battery. Even after hooking up a trickle charger the MPVi2 wouldn’t complete a full read, but when I disconnected the stereo fuse everything worked perfect – every time.

Ok...Rules that out..I should have looked at your location.

Mike,

I keep the garage at near 70 all winter along and I had the truck on the charger (on demand as needed). For me it was definitely the Fusion/OSX interaction with VCM. I setup a Windows HP Laptop, put Windows 10 on it and have had Zero issues. So I guess I now have a dedicated truck laptop It only has the VCM Suite, ForScan and As-Built Explorer on it .

@OCMike and @Ecks I forgot to say, I got my 3.625 pulley and new K060945 belt installed on Friday. Completed logging my 5th gear 2K-5K pull and submitted it to Ken. Ohhh and getting the Idler Adjusted SUCKS!!! But then I figured out a easy way to do it. You guys probably have a cool way, I did not google, just stared at it until I came up with something. I had a large hose clamp that fit around the three idlers SHCS... the one needing adjusted would be part of a triangle. Thus if I can tighten the clamp, it would pull in. My problem was the hose clamp kept slipping off the SHCS's as there is not much realestate there to get the clamp to sit on. So a little thinking... and a couple 19mm sockets. They fit perfectly around the outside of the SHCSs, providing much more real estate for the clamp to sit on. Turn the clamp righty tighty... and bingo... it was good. Torqued it down to 18ftlbs and when I released the tensioner it just barely moved a tiny bit. So I would say I am about as Open on the factory tensioner that I can get

Another thing... I noticed with Ken's initial tune my Radiator Fan was screaming most of the time. Even running down the road, it was 10 degrees out and it was still screaming. I wonder if Ken purposely ramps it up to ensure max cooling for the data log run. I put the Whipple Tune back on to test and see if maybe there was a problem... and nope, quieted down and operated like normal. @Ecks did you notice that about the fan with the first tune from Ken?

Yes i noticed the same thing. I would assume you're correct. I'm right in the same boat as you. Just sent my initial 5th gear log on friday.
