2018 3.5 Ecoboost vs 5.0 drag race
#23
So Thanksgiving the family gets together. My brother is needing a new shop truck so we are out looking. He owns a tranny shop and says that he doesn't see why all the excitement over the ecoboost as they are dog slow. He is interested in getting a 5.0
So, after a day of test driving he says "Now I see why everybody likes the ECO, those things are quick, but the ones I see have been around a while and they all run like crap." He bought a Denali. So there you have it. An unbiased decision from a professional deciding if he wants the ECO or 5.0. Obviously since he got the Denali it wasn't based on money.

Of course, until he drove an EB, they were dog slow. Now that he's driven the EB, they're quick! So now, instead of them being slow, they're unreliable! So where is this unbiased professional getting his information from? The same source that said they were slow?
So, he wound up buying a Denali? GM, isn't it? What does that say about the 5.0?

My question is who gives a ****? Go to any drag strip across the country and count how many people are drag racing their vehicle bone stock. Not many...I'm just so baffled that after all these years, I continue to read post after post of grown men cry babying about whose truck is faster. It's sad and weird. Customize your truck to your liking, get out to the nearest drag strip and have some fun. Maybe surprise some mullet warrior canaries in the process. Merry Christmas

if you are ok with the power levels of say 450rwhp and 500rwtq a tuned 3.5 gen 2 Ecoboost is great and cheap.
But you are now at the limit of stock internals and it’s just a gamble of when your motor goes boom.
With a 5.0 you have the ability of going 700rwhp on stock internals.
Simple $$$ math if you want more the 450rwhp and don’t want to worry about a rod going through your block.

A built 3.5 Ecoboost starts at $5000 and more then a few are spending 15k+ on that built motor and big turbos all for what a 5.0 can do with a whipple or a Roush blower for 6-7k

Ah! There you have it! The people I know personally who own EBs, the EB they have at work, all of which have been working flawlessly have all been debunked by Mikes brother, the unbiased professional!
Of course, until he drove an EB, they were dog slow. Now that he's driven the EB, they're quick! So now, instead of them being slow, they're unreliable! So where is this unbiased professional getting his information from? The same source that said they were slow?

Myself, If I could get the Ford truck with an ls based motor it would without a doubt my first choice. Same reasons my new bike has pushrods.
As a side note, he states that he makes a lot more money repairing GMs than Ford, and really hopes the new 10 speed is more GM influence than Ford.

Switzer has done a turbo and intercooler swap on the Raptor and put down over 550 to the wheels in a stock-driving configuration. Not bad
Granted the pistons are different in the raptor version, but I'm fairly certain the rods and bottom end is otherwise the same.
With 4.10s that'd be a fun run for you (though still lose to your power level i'm sure)
