Default Stalling Problem

Ok guys I need your help on this one. I have an 06 F 150 with the 5.4 with just over 100,000 mi on it. A couple months ago I was driving about 60 MPH when all of a sudden there was a violent shutter that felt just like the transmission was slipping. I stopped the truck as soon as I could and checked my gauges and nothing seemed wrong, The check engine light didn't even come on so I started on my way again and hoped it was just a fluke. About a month after this happened it did it again at about the same speed only this time it completely died and would not restart, it was cold and icy when this happened so I towed it to my shop and let it set inside and melt off. When I went back about 8 hours later it fired right up. I replaced the spark plugs and fuel filter and thought I had the problem solved but it did it yet again yesterday morning in the freezing rain. I watched the tachometer when it started and it would drop instantly to 1000 or less and then instantly back up to about 2000. It did this for at least a mile until it completely died. It fired the first time I tried but died instantly, after that it would not even fire. Later that day when it had warmed up I started it and it ran fine. The check engine light never once came on and every time it has happened it has been cold with freezing rain. It runs just fine in the rain just as long as its not below freezing. Anybody have any ideas what this might be?

Thanks, one more question. Is there any way to test the module to make sure its the cause of the problem or should I just replace it if it corroded on the outside of the module.
