Default shaking when braking

2001 extended cab long box

When I step on the brakes at any speed, the whole rear end shakes and is pretty noisy. It's not the brakes. Rear differential?

thanks

I would say that it's the brakes. The drum or rotor (dependin on which you have) are warped and need turning or replacing.

My vote is brakes also.
You did say when you step on the brakes.
If it were the differential, it would be under exceleration?

I had a similar problem last year where it felt like my brakes were oscillating. I replaced my brakes first and the problem seemed to disappear for a couple of months but eventually came back. Since rotors weren't too expensive I replaced those next and the problem has been fixed for half a year.

Default shaking when braking

I too had this problem. I repllaced the pads and rotors front and back with the shaking still there but not as bad. I read on here that it could be the emergency brake is not full disengaged so I soaked it with wd40 and worked it a couple times. Not when I brake its more of a pulse skake when I brake at low speed ie 35mph????????

Having the same issue, drive over 40mph it shakes, stop hard or coming off the eway the truck shakes. I replaced the front shocks, new rear tires, and replaced all 3 u-joints on the drive shaft. Any ideas from anyone, please help.

Needs to go up in the air for a close look. Possible tire out of round; Maybe a bent wheel; Bad brake drum or rotor; Bad shock; Bad axle bearing; etc You gotta re-produce the problem in the air to see what's happening.

note: Even new tires can have a problem so you gotta check them too. Sometimes you get a bad one.

Yeah, I hadn't thought of that but it's possible too. Brake shudder. Need to have it checked for codes.

It could also be a bad brake caliper.
