Default service engine soon

I'm having a problem with my truck and about 24 hours later the service engine soon light came on. I have 225,000 miles on it. What's the meaning of the light? Is it different than a check engine light or is this fords version of check engine light?

It's your check engine light. You need to have it scanned to get the codes. AutoZone will do it free. Get the codes and post em here and we can help ya figure out what is wrong.

OK, I have an Autozone nearby. I'll try that, but for now the light has gone out. The problem still continues, but the light is out. I'm guessing that if the light is out they can't scan for a code.

I don't know the difference between missing, hesitating or stuttering, but I'm going to go with missing. Makes me suspicious of an ignition coil. Lots of obvious missing with acceleration or up grade or certain speeds, but can find sweet spots on flat road where missing isn't obvious, at least not to me.

I guess I'll have to drive the truck hard enough again to get that light on.

I believe the scanner that they use pulls up the history of codes.

Well, just called Autozone. Apparently none of the Autozones in California scan. Will find another source.

Turned out to be the ignition coil.
