Default Seafoam

Howdy all,

Since you guys give so much great advice on here, I got another question for ya.

Would you guys use Seafoam as preventative maintenance on 97 F150 4.6L V8? I'm talking the Seafoam used for fuel/Engine treatment. If not, what are some other products you would recommend?

There's a LOT of people that swear by SeaFoam. I tried it on my old 2002 when it had 120k on it and was a little disappointed that I didnt get to smoke out my neighborhood. It did, however, idle noticably more smoothly after that treatment. I've tried other stuff in the past on other vehicles and I can't say I've ever gotten actual results.

As far as fuel additive I would recommend gumout high mileage with regaine, redline fuel system, or two bottles of chevron techron every oil change to keep injectors clear and carbon cleaned out.

As for oil treatment I would only use Marvel Mystery Oil or Kreen, but I would up the grade to a 5/30 because they will thin out your oil. Kreen is also excellent in gas.

I used Seafoam in the gas tank and engine manifold of my old 2005 5.4 V8. After the 5 minute smoking fog that encompassed the truck, the engine never ran better. Eventually got rid of the truck due to the CLANGING VARIABLE CAM ADJUSTERS. Sounded like a hammer banging in there at 99K miles.

Love the EB, but gas mileage is only 16 MPG with my Screw with 3.55 rear.

A friend of mine used Seafoam on his old 97 F-150 with good results. He cleaned both gas tank and engine manifold for a smoother ride and better gas mileage.

The stuff does work. Pull the vac brake boost line off, and let the truck suck half a can in. Pour it in slow so the truck don't stall out. Then let it sit for a half hour or so. The longer the better. Then go out and drive it. It should puff white smoke for a while as it cleans out the fuel system and injectors. It will help to run it through the tank too if you add it during fillups, but it will obviously be much less concentrated.

SeaFoam is so good it went from $3 a can a few years ago to $9 today. Good stuff though.

I use Seafoam religiously with my GN and when I had the TA prior to going to the Mustang. If your intake is not that dirty, you wont see the usual smoke screen. Its petroleum based so it will not dry out your valve seals. Here's a detailed write up. Sorry for the GM link.

Also works very well in small engines. Put some in my snow blower (engine was hunting) and it cleaned/smoothed her out.
