Unhappy Running hot

The temp gauge on my truck keeps going from hot then to normal. It's seems to show hot when I'm sitting still and then start cooling off when I start going. Help!!

does your engine actually seem to be hot, or is your gauge just doing its own thing?

year/engine size??/ but i would first say.... check your coolant level... if the coolant level is good, i would say either thermostat or you have a clogged heater core line

Thank you for the help. I am recently divorced and my ex always took care of things like this. It's a 1999 8 cyl. I just don't know a mechanic I can trust or afford
