Default Replacing Transfer Case Harness

Hi all,

Does anyone know any guide anywhere that can teach some tricks to replace the transfer case harness and not die in the process? I'm particularly worried about the transmission socket that is hard to disconnect and connect back.

Thx!

Hi Jimboy, a store sold me the wrong battery for my truck and I didn't pay attention to see where was the positive and the negative. When I connected the negative harness to the positive pole closing the circuit, a huge smoke came out and lots of cables got damaged. I have replaced already most of them, but this transfer case one is last. It's shorted to ground now (or hot?). My 4x4 stopped working. I got 3 check engine codes for components of the transfer case and after research I realized that they are all part of the same harness so I want to replace it. As soon as I put the fuse for the 4x4 in place, it blows right away.

I managed to replace the harness. Taking out was the most difficult because of the push pins. I also replaced the transfer case motor but when testing the fuse 20 which is the one for the "4x4 module (ESOF)" is still blowing at the moment I snug it in.

These are the error codes still to address after the battery inverted pole problem:

TCM:
  • U0102-FF: Lost communication with transfer case control module.
ABS:
  • U0114-20: Lost communication with four-wheel drive clutch control module.
IC:
  • U0102: Lost communication with transfer case control module.

Thx for all suggestions and ideas.

Try unplugging the harness at the 4x4 module and than put the fuse in to see if it blows.
If it does it would point to a shorted module assuming your harness is correct.

Thx Newbie 5, that was indeed what I exactly did yesterday. After unplugging the TCCM and plugging the fuse on, it didn't blow. I tried 3 fuses just in case, none blew. I ordered a new TCCM online and will let you guys know what happens after I replace it. I just hope that the problem is on it and not elsewhere after it as no other OBD2 component responded after I unplugged the TCCM, so it seems to be still working, but partially shortcutted!?
