Default Remote start not working

I just moved up to Alaska from New Mexico. Ever since i got to Alaska my remote start stopped working. I drive a 2013 f150 fx4. Everything else on the remote works great. I've tried starting it standing right next to it and nothing happends no lights, no sounds nothing. I was wondering if people have had similar issues and if its because of the cold weather or if something is broken.

First time poster thanks for the help.

I drove a 2008 Chevy w/remote start in weather that was -22 for years. It always worked but I always had the remote with me in the hotel room where it was warm. I would have a dealer check it out (if there's one near by) since it should be working. I'm assuming it's still under warranty. Also check for a bad fuse.

Is this an OEM remote start unit? Do you have any idea if it's using a virtual tach setting vs. an actual tach reading that's taken at the coil or PCM? If it's using virtual tach it may need reprogrammed because of the cold weather.

Edit, I just read your post again and realized you said NOTHING was happening...not even trying to start. My comment doesn't really align with your problem.

Definitely check fuses, and if it's OEM get that puppy to the dealer.

Question

You said that the other features of the remote do work? So that would mean the battery is fine. Do you have the intergraded key, or a separate fob? Does the lock button work by itself? Do the parking lights blink, or horn chirp when you try to remotely lock the doors, or start it? It could be that the button for the start is not operating (the one with the 2X on it). Have you done anything under the hood since you've been there? It's possible the hood switch may of gotten bent down out of position. That's assuming it's the same as my '11. If it is, it's a black plunger mounted on the fender lip by the coolant overflow. Or something may of happened to "un-pair" it with the truck. You can get that reset at the dealer I believe.

I have the same truck with a similar issue , when it gets below -25 Celsius the remote start does not work, when I start it using the key my instrument cluster / heater, radio etc does not function after about 20 mins once it is warm everything works fine including remote start, I have had it in a couple of times but of course the problem will not replicate itself. My truck has the My Touch system.

Call your local dealer, ask them who does their aftermarket remote starter installs.

Go there directly and have them investigate it.
I had a brand new Viper 4205v unit fail on me within a week, but obviously under warranty.
DEI is the better company out there who warranties their products quite well.

Seeing as its' a 2013 I'm assuming you paid a professional shop for the install.
Just take it to to them and more then likely they can RMA the part and replace it under warranty.
Hopefully it's a reputable remote starter company you used and you'll be fine.

Wink

Well, for the first time the other morning I hit my remote start from inside my house and the truck didn't start. It's been below 20 degrees here for about a week straight. Only going up into the low 30's during the day. I Just bought an '02 Grand Marquis so I've been driving it. The truck sat for about 2 1/2 days. It was early in the morning and it was cooooooold outside baby. 9.5 degrees. The Merc only has keyless/illuminated entry. So the truck it was gonna be this morning. I hit the remote buttons and I heard the truck crank, but only a few times and it was dragging. It didn't start. I tried it again and just the horn chirped. Tried it again and the same thing. So I figured it was because of the cold temps and not running for a few days. So I figured I'd go out, start the truck and come inside for a few. I tried it again standing next to her and same thing, just a chirp. So I open the door, lean in and stick the key in the ignition. Turn the key to start it and all I got was about three Ruuuur, Ruuuuur Ruuuurs, and then stopped. What the? I waited about a minute to give it time to recover. Then hit it again. Then it started right up. Once about a week ago it didn't start on the first try, but cranked right up on the second. This is the first issue I've ever had with Scarlet. I attribute it to the unusually cold temps were having here.

There is another thread that goes into a lot of the problems people are having with remote start.

I can tell you that I was having sporadic problems with mine, and simply holding down the second button press fixed it completely.

Found a TSB that might cure the issue.

Mine was working then it wasn't working. I wasn't working for the longest time. I thought perhaps the battery died, so I replaced the battery with one that we had in the kitchen drawer but that didn't fix anything. So last night I thought I'd take down the number and buy a brand new one. I noticed when I open the case that the battery was tipped up a little bit. I wrote down the battery number 2032, pushed the battery back down and closed up the key. For laughs I thought, lets try the remote starter from my office which is roughly 75 ft from my truck and lickity split it started. So I popped it back open and put a wad of paper on top of the battery to hold it back down after I snapped the key closed. Again tried the door locks, no issue at all. Anyone that's having trouble with your 100 series remote start and it worked for you before, check the battery and make sure that the battery is not tipped up as it might not be making the best contact on the metal contacts under the battery. Cheers, Esksboy.
