Default Preventative/Consumption

Got in a conversation the other day about engine oil consumption. It happens....it doesn't.....not the debate as to why or how here. Thought I would toss this up and see what the big guns here would say.

Lets say your engine uses a quart every oil change. What type of preventative maintenance would one do in order to help try to keep things clean and counteract any consumption effects on the engine. Basically, what can you do to try to help the engine make the long haul if it's a burner?

I have always used one of the teflon oil additives. Although it never fully stops the oil use, it seemes reduce it substantially.

Right...always good to address the source, but was wondering thoughts along the lines of how to deal with the results of a burner.....IE Run an intake cleaner every oil change, do spark plugs early, or nothing other than doing regular oil changes to combat deposits etc...

Just looking for thoughts/theories...

Thanks for the post.

Got it. There are special plugs made for oil burners with deep ignition points and an occasional fuel additive is ok. Just not too often since damage to injector seals occurs. Also synthetic oil is not advised.
