Default One Rotor at a time...

1998 F150 4x4

I just replaced the passenger side hub and hub seal, axle seal, whatever you want to call it. I am in the process of replacing the driver side and the rotor is fused to the hub! I ended up taking the hub and rotor off, as one solid piece. So, I am replacing the rotor too. Now, the employee at AutoZone told me I need to have the new rotor on the passenger side because it will grab faster when I brake and pull the truck to the passenger side, as opposed to the new rotor on the driver side, the truck pulling to the driver side. Is there any validity to this? I would replace both if I had the money, but times are tough. I would much rather just put the new rotor on the driver side as I put the new hub on. Sorry if this confusing, I am a shade tree mechanic at best. Thanks guys and gals

Jake

Rotors should be replaced in pairs, but if you can't afford to, I know how that is, you can just replace the one and it will be OK. The Autozone guy made it sound like you would have to junk the truck. LOL

Hahaha thanks! That's what I thought! I will get the driver side probably in the next 1,000 miles or so. After this hub/bearing I will basically have replaced the entire front end of the truck, and holy cow does all that add up. Thanks again! Nice try AutoZone guy!

In case anyone eventually develops a brake pull in the future after only replacing one rotor or caliper, you will already know the reason and will spare everyone from telling you "I told you so".

If you do decide to only change one rotor, don't be surprised to feel your truck pull hard to one side when applying the brakes. This could very easily cause your truck to be a hazard on the road to drivers around you. Always replace brakes in pairs as mentioned above.

I don't need any one telling me anything, I have changed just 1 rotor out, also I have also just changed 1 caliper before, and I never experienced the brake pull you are talking about, maybe you did, I don't know, but I have done it more than once and I never have. Should brake parts be replaced in pairs, absolutely. but sometimes you've you have to do what you have to do.

Sounds like double talk to me. I also believe doing what you have to do......To do it right.

I don't double talk. I said in my first response to the OP that they should be replaced in pairs, he said he couldn't afford to, and I assume needs the truck for work or whatever, so he can't just park the truck, so 1 rotor will have to do for awhile, and I don't think he will experience the radical pull you are talking about. The only major pull I have experienced is with a bad rubber brake hose, and I had a frozen caliper slide.one time, those both pulled to one side, that's my real world experience, yours could be different, and that's OK.
