Question oil change thread

my 07 F150 just turned 1500 miles old . it seems like just yesterday it only had 11 miles on it.

so I've heard get the first oil change done early. how early should I do my first oil change??

the OEM recommends only get oil changes at 5,000 miles while the oil change folks say 3,000 miles.

then there is the new synthetic oil. I don't really understand it. besides taking longer between oil changes, are there really any benefits to it??

If changing it early will make you feel better, 1500 mi would probably be a good time to do it. On all the motorcycles I've bought new the manufacture always recommended the first oil change around 600-800 mi then every 3,000 afterward. But that's a pretty uncommon practice for auto manufactures. For my 07 I waited until about 3,500 mi & let the dealership do the first oil change so they could give it a good once over. At about 7,600 mi I put in Mobil 1 fully synthetic with a Motorcraft filter at the house. I've never really trust anyone to work on my vehicles if it's something I can do myself. I also really enjoy crawling under my truck on a weekend every couple of months and check everything out myself. Just my 2 cents.

Im glad you started this thread , I just changed my oil on my 1986 F150.
I always have used Pennzoil 10-40. I change it every 3500 miles.
My question is---- Would it be beneficial to switch to a synthetic oil or does the age of the motor ( 300/4.9 auto ) make a difference?
It has @83,000 om.
Thanks

you can easily go 5,000 with the OEM semi synthetic and motorcraft filter.

Don't know if this is true - but I thought I'd toss it out there for comment -

Heard that Mobil 1 can run for 10,000 miles, however, the filter needs to be changed at 5,000. If that would happen to be true, might almost make synthetic more cost effective than conventional oil based on oil changes alone, before taking into consideration the other benefits of synthetics.

im sure Mobil 1 can, but honestly, considering how easy it is to drain the pan compared to swapping filter, i would do both....

Realistically, the synthetic properties of Motorcraft Semisynthetic (AKA Conoco ClearBlend) are some of the best available.

If you want the best Sythetic oil, German made Castrol Syntec is the best.
