Default Oil change cause engine light?

I have a 2006 F150 4.6L with about 90k I recently bought from a (used car) lot. It was a 1 owner lease and carfax shows it was maintained. Clean vehicle. Runs fine-no problems, but I went to change oil at a quick-change place on Saturday. They supposedly put in 6 qts of Motorcraft 5-20 & new filter, of course. Drove it home after putting about 60 mi. on it. This morning the engine indicator stayed on after starting it. I shut it off and tried again-same result. I waited awhile and checked the oil-none on the stick. Waited longer (5 min) and checked again. Just a dot of clean oil on the tip of the stick. What gives? If they only put in 4-5 qts would the light come on like that, or do I have another problem? What do you guys think? Oh, there is no oil on the underside of the truck or in my driveway.

My truck is an 05 4.6 and takes 7 quarts. Low oil will not cause the check engine light to come on. I would look for a vacuum line knocked off or breather hose knocked off.

It sounds like they did not put enough oil in it.

Just my .02, but I would stay as far away as possible from those "quick lube" places as you can. It is actually cheaper for me to take my truck to the ford dealer and get my oil changed, and I even get a free wash out of it.

(Then again, last time when they doing their however many point inspection they do, they said the my mufflers were in good condition on their little check sheet. I wanted to go back there and ask them to point out my mufflers to me, because if there are mufflers on my truck, someone put them on while I was asleep.)

Thanks for the replies! I wonder why the manual says 6 qts? Must not be right. I will check the hoses and sensor wires, etc. Hopefully, it's something simple like that. I think I'm done with those guys!

I have read that the new trucks take one more quart than than book says a few times that last couple of days. Is that a misprint or something, or did ford not figure in for the volume of the oil filter?

I stand corrected! After work I checked the oil and there was oil in there. I must've not waited long enough (It was below zero, too). I did add a qt. because it was on the low end of the stick.

Took the truck to visit the guy with the diagnostic tool. He said it showed lean condition on #1 & 2 injectors. He suggested starting with new fuel filter and working from there. He did admit it could be from a tank of bad fuel or a sensor temporarily unplugged. I went home & cleared the code. If it pops up again I'll take his advice. Since it didn't set before the oil change and hasn't since, I'd say I'll wait. I'm driving 70 mi per day and it's been running fine.
