Oil change
On Thursday, I changed the oil in my 2018 F150 Supercrew 3.5 EcoBoost. I only had 3900 kilometers approx 24-2500 miles. I though the oil looked pretty black for a new vehicle. My old 2007 5.4 would stay pretty clean on the dipstick for quite a while between changes.
oil life monitor was saying 79% life remaining, but I thought it doesn't hurt to do an early initial oil change during engine break in, to flush out any possible contaminants.
I have bottled a sample to send to Fluid Life in Edmonton for an oil analysis. Has anyone else changed their own oil and thought it was dirty?
has anyone sent samples for analysis?

Direct injected engines darken the oil quicker because of the carbon but it doesn't reduce the oil's protection or lubricating quality. Also why DI engines have more soot at the exhaust tips than port injected engines.

Cost is about $22.50-$24.50 will probably do another oil change at 5000 kilometers, and compare the results. If everything looks good I will go to 7-8000 kilometer oil changes.

Yes, many people have sent their oil for analysis. Not one has posted an analysis that said that changing before the IOLM tells you to change is necessary.
It is impossible to look at oil and judge its remaining life.
Changing it too early and too often is simply a waste of money.

I have had to replace engines that failed in the past. When ordering in a new (remanufactured) replacement engine, they recommended doing an initial oil change after first 1000 kilometers, & then again in another 1500 kilometers or something like that. I don't think it hurts to do early oil changes on a new engine.
It does hurt - your wallet. If it gives you peace of mind, change it whenever you want, but no oil analysis is going to confirm that for you, just wastes more money.

Wasn't sure if photo would post. This a filter for the VVT system on a Toyota I've been working on. I'm sure Ford uses similar parts. When a person knows what's inside these newer engines they can determine the best oil change intervals for their usage.
