Odd top of engine noise
'08 5.4 Larriat. No performance issues. On cold startup a tick similar to a small exhaust leak(but isn't) and it goes away in about 10-15 seconds. Stethoscope sounds like it's on the passenger side near injectors. Jon

Hi Welcome, I have heard similar problems related to the VCT Solenoid on the top of the valve cover. I think some other might have some suggestions to help diagnose and or test.
I have a similar noise. I also found it to occur when the oil is low, it will make that sound. I switched from using motorcraft synthetic blend to full synthetic, that cut down on the oil loss.
