Odd No start issue
So here is the sequence of events:
I appear to have voltages where it needs to be but the truck will not start. The parts replaced early on appears to have fixed the code (I reset it after the parts were replaced). The car started one time after this and ran for maybe 20 seconds. I manually shut it off with the key and it has not started up since. There are no new codes showing. The battery is fully charged as I have had it on a charger since towed back to my home to work on.
What the heck is going on? The truck has just over 161K and is fairly clean with low usage. (My son drives it to school 2 miles a day) prior to this it only got used maybe every other week and driven may be 10 miles. We bought it about 5 years ago with 156K so have only put 5K.
This one is kicking my butt, but with no access to high end scan tools or fuel pressure gauge I can only troubleshoot with the wiring diagrams and lots of YouTube watching.
Could the fuel pump still be weak? Fuel filter clogged? I'm reluctant to think it's a spark issue as there are no misfire codes. There are also no "theft" light on the dash.
- Driving home the truck dies. Will not restart. Has gas.
- Towed home to find P0191 code.
- Found the FRPS (Fuel Rail Pressure Sensor) bad - Replaced.
- Truck started briefly then died. The cluster said LOW FUEL - so I added 5 gallons.
- Found The FPDM severely corroded, low voltage going to fuel pump - REPLACED.
- Truck will still not start. Pressed Inertia Switch - truck fired right up. After shutting it of it will not restart.
- I found the following:
- 12VDC from the fuel pump relay
- I can here the fuel pump prime with the ignition is in the ON position
- During cranking - the voltage thru the fuel pump relay drops to about 10.5-11.5 VDC momentary while cranking but goes back up to 13VDC when not cranking
- I bypassed the FPDM all together and wired in a spare battery directly to the fuel pump (at the FPDM connector) - still will not start.
