Question Need Help

1985 Ford F150 XLT Lariat
V8 Carb 5.0 L Engine
2 WD - Auto Transmission

Yesterday, it started sputtering and bucking on me until it finally died. When it died, smoke was coming from under the truck, upon inspection it appeared that oil had gotten on the exhaust manifold behind the engine and caught fire.
Today, I am able to get the engine to start by applying a lot of gas while holding the key in start. It runs, but sputters like crazy and eventually dies. It appears to be using a lot of oil but I do not see excess oil on the ground where it is parked.
Also, the power steering fill cap popped off at some point (not sure), and it appears that the radiator fluid level may be low.
Any thoughts on where I should start would be appreciated....thanks

Since your motor wasn't carburetor originally there are so many issues and questions it's hard to know where start. I would look at the carb first for any signs of wear or damage. Make sure it is snug on the manifold. Next I'd look at the distributor, coils and wires The oil and water issues are probably not relevant to you running issue. Good luck.
