Default Life Expectancy of the Muffler?

When can you expect to replace an OEM stock muffler on an F-150?

The last two cars I owned one lasted 20 years and the other is 14 years and still going. Then I heard 5 - 7 years life span. I understand there are several variables in extending the life of the muffler. Just trying to get an average. I am sure it is an after thought by many.

Thanks

I am the same as above on multiple years from my 98 to now.... ....
eg:: my 02 went 647,000 km's & I traded it around 2011 or so...all my other multi mileage trks went @ least 400,000 ++ km's... But I did have 2 trks welded back together @ the muffler rear pipe where it connected to rear of muffler....Even then they went 2-3 more years then sold them working !!.........

Yes, I recall the days if we got 5 years out of the muffler you were lucky. Then again I was in the rust belt. However, I was surprised when I heard a 2018 in need of a muffler. When I did a Google search and 5-7 is the avg life expectancy for the muffler.

2014 here with 92K miles, about 70K of those highway miles, i.e. fully warmed up and moistures burned off for a while.

Perhaps more lucky than good, but original muffler and tail pipe as well still look good, no hints of rusting around its seams, welds, fittings or such.

OEM mufflers last much longer than the best aftermarket ones which usually rust out within five years. Evironment and vehicle operating habits are the determining factors. If not equiped, I will drill a small weep hole on the back plate of the muffler at its lowest point to allow any trapped moisture in the muffler to exit.
