Unhappy help? 1984

1984 F250 with 351W lifted 7 inches with 39 inch tires. 4 speed manual transmission. 4 inch suspension 3 inch body lift, driving down the road, tear my transfer case off of transmission, transfer case side. got about 2 miles out of it before the tcase finally gave up and ceased forward motion. prior to breakdown about one year, extremely hard to shift, almost like no clutch pressure at all, especially at a standstill with engine running. master/slave cylinders leak free. shift fork travel normal. driveshaft tore itself free of rear axle, the borg warner 1345 transfer case was torn away from transmission at narrowest point before the bolt flange.

what caused this?
how do i make it not happen again?

longer driveshaft?
rotating the dana 60 rear axle upwards to lessen u joint strain?
replacing transmission/clutch at one time and replace with 4x4 racing parts?

it is a 4x4 mud drag truck, temporarily assigned to daily driver status
