Well summer is drawing to a close... today as a matter of fact. On my home this evening, my windshield was fogged up so I hit the defrost and cranked the heat up. Well.... no heat. I tried different fan settings, even pushed the a/c button. No heat. The a/c is simply arctic in this truck! But no heat? Anyone else ever have this prob?


Btw it's a 2005 xl v6 manual (worktruck) with about 38k miles on it.

Check the water level. When it gets low it doesn't have enough to flow into the heater core. That's how I check my water level.

 

I'm not trying to insult by saying this, that's the first thing I"ll check in the morning, but I have never had that happen with any other vehicle. Is this something that happens just to our trucks? Or all trucks for that matter, it's my first truck. TY for the reply!

 

No problem. If you don't check the water regularly it can get low sometimes. If it keeps getting low on you you will need to look for a leak. I used my defrost the other day and noticed it wasn't hot. I filled up the water and noticed a leak at one of the hoses.

 

I second the motion to check your antifreeze level. He is correct in that if the level is low, the engine will not necessarily overheat, but you will not get heat inside. Start with the easy, obvious things first. If that is good, run the vehicle for a bit to get it warmed up. Feel the heater hoses to see if they both feel the same temperature (should be hot to the touch, both hoses with the heat on). If only one hose is hot, check to see if there are any heater control valves in series with the heater hoses. Check temp of the hoses on both sides of the valve. If the hoses are all warm, you might try flushing the heater core. They can build up dirty stuff inside that prevents good flow. Also a 195 degree thermostat is a cheap preventative maintenance item for pre winter prep.

Again, thank you guys for the responses. Both hoses are hot, and the antifreeze/water level is right on. I have also flushed the radiator system about 6k miles ago. Still no heat. I checked the fuse as well, so I am beginning to think that the switch may be faulty. A/C is frigid with the A/C button pushed in both the hot and cold positions. It almost seems like it's not sensing that I am turning the dial. Anyone else have this problem? I really don't want to take it to the dealership!

 

Well, my girlfriends Taurus hasn't had heat in a while. I went all through it checking and changing everything. I removed the valve in the heater line, changed the heater core and thermostat and still wasn't getting heat. Finally I found a separate fuse for the heater, aside from the a/c fuse. Still don't know if it works now though, how often do you use heat in Florida?
