Default front diff issues!

I have a 2001 f150 5.4l 4x4, I've just swamped out my front gears and when I put it on 4 low it makes a clanking noise just before I fully stop and when I start to talk off. And in both 4 high and low it doesn't turn to good on the street. Is that normal or is there something wrong?

4 wheel drive on dry pavement doesn't ever work so hot, you need to get onto soft stuff. For normal driving your axles should be as quiet as slipping past a babies sleepy room. Not even a whine at 60mph. A clank is a bad sign. A light noise when shifting from park to reverse would be normal. Have you checked your CV joints for wear. I suspect they are to blame. If your pinion to ring gear clearances and brg preloads are wrong it won't live long.

Thanks for all the info. I did find out what was wrong. My cousin was helping me and he didn't tighten the two mount bolts all the way, and it was just moving back and forth.
