Default F150 Wont Start!

I have a 1997 f150 4.6 v8 It wont start with the key, I can start it by using a screwdriver on the starter solenoid. I just bought a new starter solenoid and installed it and it still doesn't crank. What is the problem? Starter? Thanks

Probably not. Its most likely in the key switch on the steering column or you have a bad "key chip". If you have a spare key that is also chipped try that first. If it's not that, it could be the start solenoid by the battery. If you have a test light, have someone turn the key switch to start while you probe the small wire on the starter solenoid. If you get a light then it's in the starter. Good luck.
