Default engine swap- Upgrade

I have a 2000 4x4 ext cab with 5.4. the motor is telling me "bye". I am looking at a few options:

1. rebuild the current motor

2. replace with remanufactured engine

3. replace with 5.4 from 2004 model

my question is about "OPTION 3". If you have messed with both please throw in your 2 cents. How different is the 04 from the 00 model. are the motor mounts the same. If I do it I will use the 04 with all belt driven accessories, 04 computer and 00 exhaust manifolds. does this seem like a good idea or should I take my tools and beat myself in the head now.

Please advise me with any info you might have, All input is welcome- Thanks for the help in advance.

Has anyone ever replaced the crank or bearings through the bottom of the engine in a 5.4 before?

Check out the video "How To Rebuild A Ford 4.6/5.4L Modular Engine" @ www.hpvideo.org . Its a little long, but the guys shows you how to rebuild and will let you know if you want to do the job yourself. I have put 8-10 crate motors in F150s from Ford at the cost of around $3600 installed, after watching the video and having Ford service manuals for specs I think I'm going to build my own performance 5.4.
