Electronic power steering rack
2014 f150 5L 4wd. 53k miles
For 2 weeks the steering wheel sticks and does not rotate out of a turn without a small amount of force applied in the opposite direction. Turning the wheel in general is somewhat more difficult than usual also. Almost like driving an old muscle car w/o power steering, but slightly better. No warning lights are on. No noises associated with it.
I took the car to a garage today and they said it needs a new rack, but that they weren't able to flash the trucks information to the new rack and recommended i take it to the dealer.
Has anyone else had this issue? Thoughts on what it should cost? 1600-2200 is what I've seen. It is its currently driveable and I would like to get rid of the truck later this year, but can't until after a big move in June. Should I expect this to get worse or just stay kind of ragged until repaired?
Also, I read that the 6.2L has a hydraulic pump rather than eps. Is it possible to replace what I have with the hydraulic pump and a new rack? I could give a damn about adaptive steering etc. Any feedback is appreciated.
