Default Cleaned My MAS

For the first time I hosed out the MAS on my truck, using the proper MAS cleaner of course. What an incredible difference it made in how the truck runs.Smoother, more power, much better throttle response. I don't think it had been cleaned in many years, it didn't look dirty but this is a very sensitive part and it doesn't take much to affect things. The first thing I noticed when I blipped the throttle in the driveway was a real nice snarl when I hit the foot feed.

Very much a overlooked maintenance item. Little wires have a lot of control over fuel and air.

Is there any risk in cleaning the MAS?

As long as you use the proper cleaner and don't touch the sensor element there is no risk. I picked up a can of CRC MAF cleaner at Checker Auto, I have also seen this brand at Autozone. There are other brands of course.

I would not take the chance. I don't know what kind of parts cleaner you are talking about, the cleaner must not leave any coating on the heated element, or the inductor on GM and others that use an inductor for the sensor element. Because a spray can of MAS cleaner is so cheap I would just purchase a can, there is enough in a can to last you a long time.

I love the directions from that link!

Step 1: Open the hood and locate your air box. If you can't find it...please stop right now and have a friend clean your MAF for you.

Transmaster:

Based on your initial post, I also cleaned my MAS and had similar results.

Great return on a relatively small cost in money and time.

Good post. Thank you.

Thanks for the tip. I did this today.

Is this something that you can do on 2003-2004 Taurus's also?
