Default Changing power steering fluid.

Hello, 2008 xlt. I was thinking about draining and refilling power steering fluid by pulling off return line off cooler underneath . What type of fluid to refill with ? Is it mercon ???? Thank you.

Why? It's not on the maintenance schedule because it doesn't need to be done unless there's some specific repair that requires removing the fluid. It's like draining & refilling the air in the tires.

If the fluid type isn't in the owner's/maintenance manual, it's on the Ford website - either in the Quick Reference Guides, or in the notes about each fluid type.

Read too many people with pump noise after changing fluid. Only time I ever changed it was during a gearbox replacement. If you have your mind set on it, I would use regular Mercon.
