Default CB isnt working

i just installed a cb in my truck and its not transmitting any signals the only thing i get is the weather station any ideas why its not working its a radio shack brand and im new to all this new cb stuff it was in my dads old truck and i just decided one day to put it in mine.

Ya might try a new mike, been drivin trucks my whole life. Might also try putting an SWR meter on it to see if they are too high. You might have to tune your antenna. Are you receving anything other than the weather station, have ya tried channel 19 out on the highway so see if you can hear truckers talkin?

Yea i think i have a swr meter it came on it. also yea iv tried channel 19 and nothing but static. no im not reciving anything at all, only the weather. What do i have to do to tune my antenna?

Depends on what kind of antenna you have. If you have a fibergalss one there should be a rubber cover on the end of it, there should be a wire under it or a little piece of metal. If you have a metal antenna there should be a set screw that holds it into the base. To tune them you just adjust the length of either the wire or peice of metal on the fibergalss one or by cutting the bottom of the metal one. You need to get real swr meter instead of the one on the radio.
