Default Battery Light comes on when Accelerating

Hey guys,

New to the forum, and new to F150 trucks as well. I need some input on an issue that I am having. I recently needed to replace a battery and a starter on my f150 to get it running. after driving for a couple of minutes I noticed that when I was accelerating the battery light would come on. Then when I let off the gas, it would go away. This morning when I tried to start the truck, I was getting a single click, and it would not start. I tried again, and I wasn't even getting dash lights. If I waited a couple of minutes, and reseated the cables on the battery I could get another click, but then I wouldn't get dash lights or anything again on the second try.

I talked to a couple of friends about the issue with the battery light, they seem to think that I should take the alternator to get tested.

Ideas?

Thanks in advance

Considering the age of the truck, definitely get the alt tested and take a close look at the belt and tensioner, the belt could be slipping under acceleration.

I ran into an issue when I was removing the alternator. I was able to remove the top mounting bolt, however when I removing the bottom bolt, it broke off a few mm past where the threads start. Because the bolt goes all the way through the alternator and is secured through another hole on the backside, I can't get the alternator off. I tried spraying the bolt with pb blaster, and let it sit for about 30 minutes. I attempted to turn the bolt with vise grips but it wouldn't budge. I am about out of ideas. I'm ready to just take it to the shop to see if they can get it out. Any ideas would be appreciated.

Is all the weight of the alt on the bolt... have somebody hold it up while trying to remove.

Just as a follow up here.

I was able to get a local handyman to come and get the bolt out. He knocked out the alternator with a large prybar. Then used a stud extractor while heating up the bracket to get the bolt off.

I replaced the alternator, and the truck is running fine now. No more battery light when accelerating. Thanks guys.
