Default Battery

I have one of those batteries with the "EYE" indicator GREEN=GOOD ORANGE=WEAK\Going Bad and BLACK=DEAD\Replace.

I canot get the eye to green, the truck (1998 Ford F250 4x4 Ext cab long bed Lariat) starts just fine, my smart charger goes for no longer than a half hour and states full. It has a "Battery Recondition" (Desulfer) on it, should I run this on Desulfer for 24 hours? Then recharge? Or just not even worry about. I really need to find my battery load tester, that is what I get for allowing my 2 sons access to my shed. <SIGH>

Thanks for your input.

The "eye" on batteries, usually fail, and are garbage. They can't be relied on. I wouldn't worry about it. And the eye typically only shows the state of one of the battery wells - it could show green, yet you still have a bad cell.

You need to do a proper load test on the battery, to know the condition of the battery. So find that tester. :-) Or just bring it to any number of places, that will do a load test for you, for free.

How long have you had this 98 truck (I'm assuming you did not buy it new?). How long has battery been in there? You could be due for a new battery.

I had to add some water to my battery as well, maybe a pint or just a little less. I load tested it, 20 second load dropped and held at 10 volts, recharge with my smartcharger, retest, load dropped to10.1 volts, checked water and recharged again. Retest and dropped to 10.4 volts tried to recharge, took a few seconds to read full. Appears my battery is back to life. My friend suggested I use the battery reconditioned on my charger, I am not sure exactly what this does or if it would do more damage than good.I know it does like a desulfer cycle, but not exactly certain, the charger is a black & decker smartcharger VEC1095AB.
