Default 01 trans question

Hey guys whats up. Just introduced my self in the introductions section. What i have is an 01 f150 5.4l 4x4. she has 190k miles on it and the motor is still running strong. What the trans is doing is when i start the truck i put it in drive and if i press the pedal to go..it will just rev for however long..maybe 2-3 mins before if finally catches into drive. reverse has no issue at all..and once it is in drive its fine. shifts through all the gears as it should. I checked the fluid hot with truck in park on even surface and its right about where it should be..but was a darker red color with no burnt smell. I went ahead and dropped the pan to change filter. Found the yellow dust plug laying there. cant believe that filter has never been changed with 190k on it..but anywho..replaced filter..refilled. Same thing. there were no shavings and not too much gunk on the magnet. No trouble codes. What do you guys think? What should i do next? Thanks alot guys

Ok a little update. Ive decided to just go ahead and pull the trans. Ive looked around for a guide or something but couldnt locate anything. Are there any tricks to this? I looked at the exaust and that looks like its going to be a huge pain. Ive removed both driveshafts and i believe all the electrical connections. Just looking for some advice from someone whos done this. Thanks

It's tricky but if you split transfer case off first then you don't have to drop exhaust, torsion bars will be rusted on pretty hard, take em off with a torch and air hammer
