Default 4X4 wont work?

I just purchased a 2005 f150 fx4 with 45000 miles on it. When i bought it about a month ago, the 4wd worked, and today i tried to use it and it doesnt work. I have the electric dial switch on my dash, and both the 4wd high and low do not work. I checked the fuses and they are all good. The lights dont come on with i twist the dial, and it doesnt make any noise either. Any suggestions? please dont tell me it the motor cuz that sounds like its gonna be expensive

Any ideas guys? would the truck still be covered under the powertrain warranty and would that apply to the 4wd?

My wife has a '05 f150 fx4 had similar issue! There is some relay on the firewall pass side it was quick cheap and easy! Easy because a mechanic friend of mine did it at my house over a beer! The best fixes work like that

Default 4x4

hi there, i had the same problem a couple of weeks ago. I would turn the dial switch and nothing would happen. Thanks to this forum I was able to do a quick fix. Mine is a 2006 f150 lariat. Apparently there is a motor/selenoid (forgot what its called) that is located on the driver side of the trany. Apparently it likes to stick and will not switch to 4 low or high. What I did is I took that part out, 3 or 4 bolts and moved it around a bit hoping to unstick it and it worked. After moving it, I got in the cab and swithced it to 4x4 and i could here it moving. I re-installed it and then with the vehicle on, i tried it and it worked. Alot of the guys here say to use it or at least engage it once a month, but i feel better doing it 2 or 3 times instead, just to make sure it doesn't do it again. It was a quick fix. it took me bout 15-20 minutes. Hope that's your problem and this works for you.
