Default 4X4 Low Question

This is my first Ford F150 2002. While in 4X4 low should I be able drive, and the truck shift thru the gears? The 4X4's I had (GM) 4X4 low was like a compound low, and top end was about 5-mph.
If so, is this controlled by the transmission or the transfer case.

Wow, I'm glad to hear that. Now I can quit trying to fix it. I think there is an old saying that fits this situation. Something like "If it ain't broke don't mess with it".
Thanks
