They can't figure out what's wrong. What the #! $@ is going on with my truck? They keep telling me they're talking with the Ford "hotline" but can't figure out what's wrong. They've had it for 5 days now. All they'll tell me is their going to test drive it to see if they can get the oil to rise or not.

Just participating in your thread, I'm not a tech.

Is your truck driving OK? Did you have any trouble codes?

It runs great. The oil rising is only a problem because too much oil can damage the engine. Other than that the only problem I've had is the one time the engine misfired and there was a TSB to replace the spark plugs.

It's not saying much, but I've never heard of a problem like this.
If the right amount of oil was put in, what could cause oil level to rise?

Fuel?

Coolant?

Condensation?

Vacuum?

Oil expansion?

Hmmm..... hope they can figure it out and fix it for you.

At this point I'm really not so sure they didn't take out the oil after the first time. They replaced a valve after I discovered it the first time about a week after I bought it. I saw too much and figured someone just put too much in and went to have some taken out and they ended up replacing a valve that was sticking. The coolant was very low as well. I've only had this truck for a month. At the same time I've heard the 3.5 needs to be driven like it's stolen which would eliminate this problem because of the excess being burned off. If it's the second then I'm all for it! Otherwise I'm not happy at all. I'm paying a lot of money. I expect 200,000 miles out of my truck considering I take extra well care of it.

Well we know it's not actually making oil, so whatever it is, I would suspicion fuel, is definitely thinning the oil, and that's not a good thing.

I would think they would have figured out if there was fuel I'm the oil by now though. This is the 6th day they've had it. I'm sure if it was fuel then I'd have my truck back by now with there being a TSB out on that same problem.

You said the truck had a check engine light at one point and that the techs said there was a TSB and changed spark plugs. Did you mean there was a DTC? If so, any idea what that was?

From my chair here, I'm leaning towards a PCV system malfunction?

If it was fuel or coolant raising the oil level and they checked for that, it should have been noticed.

Good luck, hope it's resolved soon.

The only reason I said fuel is because if it's coolant or water in the oil that is usually easy to spot because the oil will look milky, or something like a milkshake. Hope they get it taken care of soon. Keep us updated.

They said it's not coolant and neither gas. They ran all of the tests that Ford told them to do. They ran them several times. They even ran one of them 4 times to check if gas was leaking from the injectors to the oil and it was all fine. The only thing left is to see if they can get the oil to rise themselves and then pinpoint the problem while it's happening.
