What brand and type of coolant can I buy for my truck? With all the automotive companies getting "****" about all this, it's hard to find that 1 brand. I have access to O'Reilly, Autozone and even NAPA. We all know that if I have to go to the dealership, I'll spen 4 times more than I should.
Why can't an owners manual just say, "Use Prestone 50/50" (Just an example), anymore? Now they say things like, "Use an approved engine coolant as specified under ASTM WD4923VX... Blah, Blah.

Just about all antifreezes are going to meet or exceed manufactors specifications. The anti-freeze-over-heat properties don't diminish with age, the lubricant properties are what break down over time. Whatever you use needs to be what you top off with.
