You think your 150 is poorly built?

One of the things I do really like about the truck is how customizable the gauge cluster is, even more so than a GC.

I can understand the desire to make the shift electric instead of mechanical, but this is one of the things that can easily get screwed up if not thought through.
If you have push button start, as a programmer I would never want to override the driver's wishes to shut off the engine because there may be a good safety reason to shut it down. But on the other hand, back when all cars had keys it was a pretty good indicator that something was wrong when you tried to pull out the key and it couldn't be removed because you were not yet in park. It was a pretty good interlock to let the driver know that the vehicle might roll away. It is also impossible if there are no keys to turn. Plus you could blame the runaway vehicle on the driver, because there would be keys in the ignition and a mechanical lever in a position other than park after the crash. A three year old could be a crash investigator on that one.
Now we have a perfect storm. Users that can leave the car in anything but park and walk away. And what stops them? A noise? Nothing? Of course people are going to leave it in drive or reverse or neutral. People leave their coffee on their roof. Plus if the solenoid or mechanical hardware fails in the trans, you don't find out until your vehicle is driving itself. Not exactly the autonomous upgrade anyone wants. New programming to put it in park at other times isn't the ultimate solution, because the failure mode is still dangerous. It will likely have to be worked out much like drive by wire throttles with redundant sensors and self checks and default modes. That or a mechanical lever and interlock, but I guess we covered that in the 1970's.

While I am not the person you directed your reply to; my dad has a 2014 Ram Laramie. I wasn't happy when he got it and I am still not a fan of it. I think the number 1 thing that they spent R&D money on is how to put the RAM name on as many pieces of the truck as possible because its everywhere.

The one place I actually think it looks OK, and I hated it at first, is on the back of the tailgate on the new Night Edition.

Do most newer cars with normal gear selectors automatically switch to park if you turn it off if you left it in drive?
I understand most with electronic controls do. I can tell you from experience my wife's Prius automatically goes into park when you shut it off. It's a push button for park and easy to overlook.

Here is what I do like:
-5.7 Hemi is strong and powerful
-8 spd Trans shifts flawlessly and compliments the Hemi nicely
-The exterior styling and Blue Streak Pearl paint
Here is what I don't like:
-Interior is cheaply made and looks it
-Everything rattles and I mean EVERYTHING
-The electrical system is complete trash
-I was getting tired of taking it to the dealership every other week since April for multiple issues
-5 replacement radios and it still is not fixed
-New fuel pump
-Lost my fuel gauge....twice
-Lost my electronic power steering....4x. Once while my fiance was driving and shot her into oncoming traffic.
-Lost my ambient temperature gauge....twice
-Issues with my TPMS....twice and still not fixed
-Check Engine Light for issues with the Emissions System.....twice and still not fixed.
-1 replacement hood after it corroded through
Granted, not everyone has the same issues I have but I am not the first Ram owner to experience these...
Unfortunately I bought the truck used with 13k miles on it which prohibited me from seeking Lemon Law in my state. I was only able to file a lawsuit for breech of warranty and the maximum compensation is 10% of my purchase price. Even though I have a check of $3,000 coming my way, I still have a truck with multiple issues that are not fixed and will not pass my state inspection & emissions test. FCA stated that they could not find the issue with the emissions system...despite a CEL. They would not cover the charges and only erased the code...which came back less than a week later.
I have always liked Ford and was actually looking for another F-150 when I bought the Ram...big mistake. Sure Ford has its issues but with my past dealings, at least Ford fixes it and fixes it the first time. Another big thing for me, the F-150 is a much better built truck, despite what others have complained about on here.

Well considering I just settled a lawsuit with FCA over the truck, I have a lot that I don't like lol. Keep in mind I am talking about a 2 year old truck.

grass isnt always greener on the other side. I hade an 2013 f150 that had nothing but problems with dead batteries. This was a very common issue with these trucks. They would just say there is nothing wrong with it i took it in 5 times, same BS. The final strw for me was that on one occasion my truck rool while in park. I was 100% sure i put it in park. That was the final straw for me. Trade that piece of crap.

I've been taken to the cleaners by "pre Fiat" dodge. I swore I would NEVER buy another. Their customer service is by far the worst I have ever experienced. I bought a used ram from them with 11k on it. It had very few mods and was sold with the existing warranty. Mind you this was from a CHRYSLER JEEP DODGE dealer. When I noticed a problem with the truck completely unrelated to any of the work done, I immediately took it back to them. It only had a hundred or so miles on it since leaving. They voided my warranty stating that he mods indicated it would be abused.
Left there & drove straight to Ford. They hooked me up and I will never look back. Ford has been better built in every way from any dodge I've sat in aside from hellcats but those are a different story.
