Default XLT Sport Console Disassembly

Has anyone taken apart the centre console in XLT Sport yet? I imagine they all come apart the same way, but I tried following directions for the previous model years and didn't get far. I'm trying to mount my ham radio in the big storage bin and need to run the power and control cables. Any help would be appreciated.

Attachments might help.

I was going to mount some toggle switches in the area by the SD slot/USB ports. I started but decided I was too lazy to pull the gear shifter so found a different location for the switches.

That is fantastic, thank you!

So it looks like the main top piece of trim (indicated in blue on pg2 of the selector lever guide) is just held in with 8 clips, and should just pop out by pulling upwards on each corner? Once that piece is off I don't think I'll have to go any further, but at least I have the instructions if I do.

I was hoping it would be easier since I wasn't planning to remove the console, only slide it back enough to get my hand in for running wires. Unfortunately removing all trim pieces and the four bolts it still would not move.

Good luck.

This worked fine for me. Once I lifted to top piece of trim I was able to slide a fish tape through from behind the shifter to under the dash and run a pull line for my power, speaker, control and antenna cables. Now I just need to get the control cable up to the left side of the dash where I want to mount the control head.

I have to get my floor console replaced in my Platinum by the dealer. The lower trim panel that clips into the console, the console piece was pulled away on the passenger side when the trim panel was removed and this console piece doesn't clip back in after removal (it has mushroom/flared style posts). If you try and push them back in, the posts crush and don't reseat in the floor console.

I looked at the floor console removal, that doesn't look too bad, but the shifter looks to be a bit of a PITA.

Do you think the front seats have to be removed to pull out the floor console? It would probably make things easier since it's just 4 bolts and a harness to the driver's seat... just wondering.

Glad everything worked out for you once the console trim piece was removed.

yes you have to remove both passenger and driver side seat to access the bolts for the console. if you don't its next to impossible. to take it out.

Well, that's not going to be fun. Every time a dealer's service department goes to fix something, they mess up something else or forget to connect a harness.

I see for the floor console removal, they take out the shifter. Is that really necessary? Figure just move the shifter down into the last position and lift the console over top of the shifter.

I was able to get the 4 bolts on the sides out just moved the seats forward, then back. Wasn't bad but they're about 2" long and blue locktited, have fun.

i guess i was swapping out the jumper seat for a center console so maybe you could get away with just moving the seat back and forth. still a pain that way though. its just one connector for each seat, pretty easy and 4 bolts on each seat. i dont have the shifter on the console in my truck so nut sure if there is clearence or not.
