XLT second thoughts
I studied comparisons between makes and models for 1 year before I decided on the F150. Spent another 6 mos deciding on what pkg I wanted. I made up my mind that I wanted the XLT 302A w/ 5.0, fX4, chrome pkg, console, sliding back glass. I didn't care enough about leather to want the Lariat; didn't need a sun/moon roof (although I liked it, had it on my previous truck), didn't need LED headlights. The one thing that I DID want from the Lariat that the XLT didn't offer in '16 was the console shifter with the chrome pkg. Every dealership told me that the only way I could get the console shifter in an XLT was to go with the sport pkg. Wasn't going to go up in price to get the console shifter. The day I was ready to buy, I went to two different dealers and they didn't have everything I wanted on the lot. Came close but it was the EB 3.5 so I ws ready to walk. The salesman says "hey, lemme show you a Lariat we have with the 501A pkg. Has everything you're looking for, including the console shifter." I looked and had to have it when he came down low enough on the price. I don't regret it one bit. I love having the BLIS, the twin panel moonroof, the folding mirrors, the dual climate control (wife's always gotta have some control), push button / remote start, etc. Looking back at what I wouldn't have if I'd settled for the XLT is what makes me not regret getting the Lariat. Now the leather seats aren't worth the upgrade. These can't beat the Katskins.

I wish Ford would just let you build a truck a-la-cart. I get that it would kind of hurt the "model" lines, but how many people actually order new cars? I have to believe that most buyers go to the dealer and find the compromise that suits them. Us guys/gals that order cars are obviously more picky and looking for exactly what we want; not a compromise.
For instance, I'm a tinkerer... I can't leave anything alone; I'm going to do all sorts of stuff to the truck anyway, so why do I need to start with premium stuff that I'm going to tear out anyway and pay for things twice.
The perfect truck for me: XLT version of special edition FX4 (in terms of interior and exterior styling), no graphics, power seats, super crew with a 5.0, no running boards, the cheapest wheels possible, the cheapest stereo system possible, 8" gauge cluster screen, center console but with column shifter, power folding mirrors, but no BLIS or any of the other fancy driving assistance Lariet stuff, LED tails, tailgate step, and a 36 gallon tank. Let me order that FORD! LOL

Now what I wish is that every truck would use the same wiring harness throughout the truck...from an stripped down XL to a maxed out platinum. That way if you wanted to add something like power folding mirrors or telescoping mirrors it would just be plug and play....add the new mirrors and a new switch in the drivers side door panel and you are done. but that would probably cost an extra $40 or $50 bucks per truck x750k trucks a year and thats $30-37.5M less profit a year
I mean I wasn’t trying to insinuate that it was practical or even something that was possible. Anything that starts with “I wish” is usually going to be a relatively unrealistic statement.
