Default WTF was ford thinking

The Sony stereo in my Platinum blows. It is really a pos and needs to be redone. I have seen quite a few posts regarding the stereo but don't remember seeing if anyone added an amp to the stock speakers and a powered sub. Has anyone upgraded this setup

I agree. Horrible audio. I expected better for this trim level. No punchy mids, flabby bass, no crispy highs... Just mud.

The OE "premium" stereos have been sub-par for years. I learned my lesson from my Sony system in my 2012 and just opted for the standard one this time, and I souped it up myself. 10/10 now.

TONS and TONS and TONS of posts on this subject BTW. Just do a little searching and you can see what everyone has done.

For future reference, opt out of stereo upgrades and use an aftermarket system. It's usually cheaper and way better quality. I'd also avoid Sony for anything audio... their gear has been junk for years.

I was absolutely floored regarding the horrid system in my 2012! I was so disappointed in a $45K vehicle could have THE worst audio systems I have ever experienced. I have owned dozens of vehicles, probably about 50 now!

AND they succeeded in making the XM sound worse than FM! That takes some real effort there!

The audio in my 2015 Lariat is MUCH better, but it is what you would expect from a $13,000 SMART car or something. I had a Dodge Ram 1500 rental a few months back that had the Alpine system in it, and I was amazed how good it sounded in comparison.

Might have to tell ford to get with it. The super duty's sound good to me, but have not heard the f150s upgrade.

I too am disappointed with the Sony system. Xm sounds like junk and fm does sound better.

I saw that there was a kicker upgrade kit for the last gen that came with an amp, speakers, and a rear sub/amp. It sold for $500. I'd like something like this for the 2015.

Ford is innovative in many ways, but sound systems are left in the stone ages with regard to sound quality. Grrr!

Ford should never have broke ties with Pioneer.
The pioneer in my 04 Ranger Tremor was awesome for a factory installed option.
Sony sucks
