Default Wrench light when using 4wd

Hello this is my first post. I'm hoping to find some useful information here. I have a 2015 F150 5.0 screw 6 1/2 bed. xlt I was on a slippery driveway and turned the 4wd high switch on at a dead stop. It made a bunch of grinding noises and after the shift was complete I tried to go forward and it didn't want to move, tried reverse as well and same thing. The Wrench light came on. I put it in neutral and shifted to 4 low then was able to get off the slick spot. Moved about 10 feet wrench light still on. Put in neutral shifted to 4high wrench light still on but was able to drive down the driveway. Got to the road turned back to 2wd and light went out. Tried 4 Wd high again and wrench light back on. Did this twice and same result. Little later tried it again and no more wrench light. Hasn't had a problem since. Contacted dealer about it and they advise just monitor it until light comes back on. 27k miles on it and I wanna be sure there's no issues as this should be under warranty. My question is has anyone had this happen and would others ignore it until light comes back on as they said to do or would u make them look at it?? This dealer loves to tell me they "can't replicate the condition" on issues it's had with brake noise. I've given them video and audio proof of brake noise I was having and they finally looked at it and found nothing. My point is they seem like they don't wanna do anything more than they have to.
More importantly the 4 wd issue I am looking for info on. Thanks, it's great to have a place to discuss these things.

Without having the specific DTC that caused the wrench light to illuminate, it's very difficult to self diagnose.

I can tell you there aren't any TSBs describing your issue. There is one SSM that may/may not have anything to do with your concern so please don't assume I am saying this applies in your case. Nonetheless here it is:

SSM 46829 - 2015/2017 - F-150 - Intermittent Loss Of Throttle Response - Multiple Warning Indicators And/Or Multiple Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs)

Some 2015-2017 F-150 vehicles may experience intermittent loss of throttle pedal response, illuminated wrench, hill descent, airbag, anti lock brake system(ABS) and/or advanced trac warning indicators and/or P2122, P2123, P2124, P2125, P2127, P2128 and/or P2138 DTCs. This may be caused by the Accelerator Pedal Position (APP) Sensor 14A005 harness being improperly routed behind the brake booster to brake pedal bracket. If the harness is improperly routed, loosen the bracket to free the harness, refer to Workshop Manual (WSM), Section 206-06. Inspect and repair damaged circuits before properly routing the harness. If the harness is properly routed, proceed with normal diagnostics.

would a code still be saved in the computer even though the light went out? Auto zone scanner can access this code? Or only dealers scanners?

i had throttle but it just grinded as if the hubs didn't kick in.

Should be but it depends on how many times the vehicle has successfully completed a drive cycle without any concerns after the DTC was generated. Nonetheless the code may be saved in the PCM's memory.

Very possible for (approx.) a 2+ year old 4WD that has NOT had the 4WD system engaged to be "dry." It's possible that after engaging the system a few times now that it has lubed itself and will work properly.

I would suggest engaging the system a few more times over the next few days driving it a short distance each time. Unless there is damage to the system this should help keep it working correctly. This is another reason the system should be engaged at least every six months and driving a short distance to keep it working properly. Be sure to put in reverse for 30-40' when engaging to "lube" also.

Why not bring it to the dealer and let them pull the code?

agreed, however I have used the 4wd a few times very recently with no issues when it snowed then this happened. I will keep in mind using it every so often to keep it working properly.

i emailed the service manager at the dealership and she spoke to a technician and told me he said to just keep driving it don't bring it in unless the light comes back on again. Something wasn't working properly that's for sure but it seems they always want to avoid warranty work if u can't reproduce the issue at the time of the appointment. Same thing happened with my brakes I showed the video and audio proof of the noise and they said they can't reproduce the noise when they had it. Go figure... And with my luck there won't be any code. I'm sitting at auto zone right now and their code reader shows no issues.
