Are you implying theres something I could have done to avoid this accident? I was not speeding and I was in a managed lane with a barrier...I guess i could have been going 30MPH in a 60?

No, i was able to avoid the concrete barrier on the driver side just barely.

Sounds like most people think it wont be totaled. Would y’all want to keep this truck after getting it fixed? My gut tells me to trade it in ASAP, but I’m guessing Ill take a bath financially.

For those asking, everyone was “okay” in the accident. I have some soreness in my back and will be seeing my PCP tomorrow.

The blue car tried to say he was forced into the HOV lane, which is dumb because he’d still be at fault.

The main lanes slowed, but why would you have slowed down in a segregated HOV/HOT lane? You don't expect people to drive through barriers/pickets. Even Houston drivers don't do that very often.

It looks like the OP was in a restricted access HOV Lane. There are visible barriers to discourage people from doing what that car did....there are only certain access points where you are legally allowed to enter/exit the HOV lane.

If you use these enough, you get used to passing stopped or slower traffic that is outside the HOV lane, which is their exact purpose.

For perspective....It’s akin to telling the OP to slow down for every car stopped at a stop sign or stoplight when the OP has a green light or right-of-way. It al works beautifully, until some retard jumps threads through the barrier without checking for traffic. The car that caused the accident was not at an entry/exit point...that would be similar to him running the stop sign.

Ouch! Good that you’re ok. Would we have any curse words if the cam had sound? Sure would have if it was my truck :-)

Well, I gasped a little at the video. My brother lives in Dallas and drives pretty fast in the HOV lane when all the other traffic is slowed or stopped. It scares me knowing what would happen if a car ventured over to HOV lane. And they do it. But, not your fault for sure. When I visit Dallas, I am one of those that is crawling in the slowest lane available. Will never get used to that traffic.

I say everyday that I'm surrounded by idiots. This pic is from San Antonio. That white solid line along with those plastic poles (whatever they are called) means YOU CANNOT FREAKING CROSS THAT LINE. But you know everybody is like "But I gotta go that way deeeerrrrp".

Make his insurance company pay diminishing value on your truck if they fix it. After you get that money you can look at trading it in.

We have hot lanes on the VA side of the DC beltway as well but they place those white poles much closer together so there is no way a car can slide through like he did without hitting one. I think what he meant was,and what I thought as well when I was watching the video, was when I saw the main lanes slowing I would of slowed down some as well. Maybe not to 30 but some, say to 45-50? Might not of prevented the accident totally but might have lessened the damage. Obviously it was the other guys fault and even slowed down some you probably would of hit him,but whizzing by stopped vehicles at high speed in the rain is a recipe for disaster.

We don't have HOV lanes in NC. I was nervous as hell watching that video with cars nearly stopped in the other lanes.

More importantly OP, what dash cam are you running?

Edit: I see it's a SpyTec A119. I think I might get the same one.
