The sony in my '15 is not horrible, but it handles some songs better than others.
My son has the shaker 500 system I think it was in his 05 Mustang convertible. It really sounds decent for a stock system with decent bass reproduction. In comparison I would say the new Sony system in my 16 is still quite a bit better though. It really is interesting to hear people say they dislike the stock Sony system. The stock system in an xl or xlt is a different story. That is what is in my work truck and it is pretty weak in all areas. No doubt.

I have to agree with the others on the audiophile system in the older trucks. I had an 08 Lariat with that system in it and it rocked. Crystal clear and as loud as you want. I also liked the setting for driver seat as it made it even better when I was alone.
I traded that for a 2011 lariat with the sony system expecting the same or better and what a disappointment. I even had to make a big deal about it at the dealer since with the tsunami in Japan at that time the sony sound/nav components weren't available. As a result the truck I ordered arrived without it. I fought for my deposit back and went in search of a truck like what I ordered that had the system. After all that I was so pissed off when I finally had a chance to really listen to it. One nice feature in that truck was the hard drive.
Now I just bought a 2016 with the Sony and I will agree it is better than the 11 was but still nowhere near the 08. I still kinda miss that truck.....

I have no idea who manufactured my stereo, but it sounds fantastic! I've got the sync 3 system with nav. It sounds like I have a sub, but, I can't find it. Plenty of bass, clear mids and just the right amount of treble. It definitely sounds like I have a substantial amp as well. I only count 7 speakers, but it sounds as good as anything I've ever owned. The mirrors shake when I punch it, with very little to no distortion at 25-30. Anyone know what I have? My Challenger had a very good system, with an amp, but had distortions above 24. Is there another location for an amp and subwoofer, other than behind my backseat? My Tahoe and Yukon, had it under the center stack. It doesn't say Sony on my stereo. And there are no other markings on the speakers.

I've read on here that the woofer is behind the back seat. I can't verify that but maybe you could.

I just picked up my '16 Platinum tonight. Driving home, listening to the radio, I was VERY impressed. Much better than the Bose systems I had stock in an Audi and in my old truck. And powerful! I tried to see how loud it would go and couldn't get above 12 on the dial. I've never owned anything Sony, but again, I'm impressed so far.

I'm very pleased with the upgraded Sony system in my truck.
