They come on with the reverse lights. I might wire in a separate switch at some point but I haven't had a need yet.

Ok thanks. That doesn't help me.

How would I determine what size cap needed to just hold it steady for the relay?
If you already have a relay for switching constant DC you could start with a 47 microfarad or even 100 microfarad, minimum 20VDC. connect the cap in parallel with the coil terminals. some caps are polarized so make sure you connect + and - appropriately. I'm not sure what radio shack carries anymore besides cell phones but you might be able to find one there.

I guess the question is, can you hear the relay chattering or humming? if not then I would say there is some other issue, the capacitor may not help. easiest way to tell is to connect the LED direct to the battery and see if it still flickers.

Ok thanks. The relay buzzes when the lights turn of, which I expected due to the dimming. Not sure about when they're on with the engine running. Nothing audible when I tested, but I'm planning on pulling the tail light out again for testing so I should be able to tell for sure.

I think that robbieg works because he has the 502 trim, which has LED lights. You have an XLT, as I do. You need to have the lights run through a LED driver. Check into something like this:

I thought all the bed lights were LED? Now I need to double check that.

Edit:
Yup, window sticker even says "LED box lighting". Though I do have the 302A package, so maybe that changes something.
